that installation sensation

Spent this week installing the show at Team Gallery. Well everyone else spent the week installing. I was there on Tuesday and today, but Tuesday there wasn't much to do with all the un-powered outlets, so we just laid out a game plan for today.

Check out this animation I created of the day's work:

(Documentation = art??? = this blog??? = meta meta meta)

Let me just say off the bat that it looks great - it is totally amazing to see these pieces all together. Today Cory and I handled all the audio stuff for the pieces and general install stuff, running cables, setting up receivers, DVD players, changing the settings on the machines, etc. And I did a bunch of mass emailing - it gives Cory the jitters. So much of the work I have been doing for Cory is preparation, editing, the small steps taken throughout the full-blown concept, that this is a great opportunity to step back and take it all in, as well as get in a bit of manual labor instead of much mouse-clicking. Also we have been working exclusively on the Dazed and Confused project the past 2 months, its really nice to see all the other pieces again in their full glory.

(It's HUUUGE!!)

They were originally going to project Colors onto a black wall, but decided yesterday to paint it white, which was a great call - its some realllllly nice Panasonic projector that is ridiculously bright. Come to think of it, all the projectors and screens were Panasonic - maybe they sponsor Team? Ahaha. I think it looks even better than at PS1.
Also Dazed and Confused (now titled "Untitled Translation Project"(though it almost got named "Lost in Translation")) is on the biggest flat screen plasma monitor I have ever seen. Beats the pants off the tiny .mpg I was working off of in Pro Tools. I helped lift it and mount it onto the wall. It felt about as heavy as the thousands of dollars I'm sure it cost should feel. And Dazed and Confused has never looked better (except maybe at the upcoming screening!!!).

Anyways I don't need to sit here and type about all this: you should come see it! The opening is tonight, but the show will be up for a while. Here's the lowdown:
" subtractions, modifications, addenda, and other recent contributions to participatory culture "
Team Gallery

Cory sez: "Its all new stuff, including a record, some computer software, and a couple of videos. I will also be hosting a screening at 8pm on Thursday Oct 5th @ Anthology Film Archives, so X that off in your calendar if you are looking for something to do that night. "

Hopefully you had already gotten that email from Cory himself yesterday, but we did in fact find out the hard way that with gmail you can only send 500 copies of the same email per day (ever?). Doh! So no more emailing for Cory, haha.

Another nice suprise: while installing we heard that a certain museum (CENSORED) purchased a copy of Colors. Congratulations Cory! And apparently someone bought one the day before. 2 in 2 days!! Wow. Only 3 copies left, so get out your checkbooks now.

See you tonight!
